Nafeece Gibbons, PROGRAM INTERN
Nafeece Gibbons is 17 years old and is a Program Intern with Students Run Philly Style. He was born in South Philadelphia but moved all around the city, never staying in one place for too long. In his own words: My mom took care of me and my older sister until I was 9, then she was arrested. When she was arrested my grandma took on that responsibility of providing for me and my sister. When I was 10 years old me and my family moved from South Philly to live with my aunt in Kensington Allegheny where I attended school at Willard Elementary, we stayed for about a year then moved to West Philadelphia where we stayed at a shelter. In West Philly I went to a school called Drew Elementary. After a year in in the shelter I moved with my dad in the Huntington Park section of the city. This was strange because it was my first time seeing my dad so it was like moving in with a stranger. When I moved further in North Philadelphia I attended Laura W. Waring Middle School where I met Jen Manness, the school counselor at the time. She introduced me to the Students Run Phily Style program and pushed me to run and complete it, and told me it would make the people that love me proud.
Now I am a Medical Assistant major at Franklin Learning Center High School, going into the 12th grade. I am working towards becoming HIPAA and OSHA certified. In the future I hope to go to medical school and become a cardiologist.
Favorite Students Run Event
It’s hard to just pick one because I like running and seeing people run with me, but if I had to choose one I would pick the Broad Street Run for sure.
