Being a part of the Students Run Philly Style organization for over three years has given me the opportunity to meet and create friendships with great students, coaches and mentors that I otherwise wouldn’t have met, had I not been a member of the program. Students Run has given me the opportunity to be a part of a community with determined and focused individuals with common interests and goals like me. It is great to be around motivated runners who seek greatness.
If I weren’t apart of Students Run Philly Style I would never have imagined running a marathon or even running in general. Students Run has diversity from it’s members to the races that students participate in. In addition to entrance into the Marathon, members also can run in smaller distance races that include the Radnor Steeplechase 5K, the ENON Fit for Eternity Run and the Generation Run. A highlight of the program is the events where guest speakers are invited to speak to students – like Olympic Gold Medalist Dan Beery who was invited to the Green Season Pasta Party two days before the Marathon.
My goal for the 2014 Philadelphia Marathon was to finish under four hours. I have been training hard since the green season began to be able to accomplish that goal. The first marathon I completed was in 2013 with a time of 4:28:55. I finished the 2014 Philadelphia Marathon with a time of 3:46:15. I couldn’t have done it without Coach Coletta who paced me throughout the entire Marathon. Since joining Students Run I have physically and mentally strengthened myself both as a runner and a leader.
