I Run This City: Camden, NJ transforms lives via long-distance running and mentorship. I Run This City began in 2016, as an expansion of Students Run Philly Style, to provide mentoring through long-distance running to youth in the nearby city of Camden, NJ. Led by one passionate mentor and a group of caring adults 11 adventurous students from St. Anthony of Padua School completed their first race with I Run This City at the Camden Salvation Army KROC Center. Today, I Run This City includes more than 60 youth enrolled and partnerships with 6 schools in Camden. Students train side-by-side with volunteer mentors to complete the Blue Cross Broad Street Run 10-miler, or the Philadelphia half, or full, marathon, as well as local races like the Cooper Norcross Run the Bridge 10K, South Jersey Athletic Club summer series, and the Camden Clock Chasers Chasing Dreams 5K. Student runners attend practice three times per week for 9 months to train for these major accomplishments. Once the students cross the finish line, their lives are changed forever. These incredible accomplishments help students develop crucial goal-setting abilities and prepare them to turn any challenges into opportunities for success.
